berry interlude

My latest post on the Food Network blog is up for your perusal. It's about my trip to a local berry farm and as you can see from a few of my latest posts, I'm swimming in berries! The one great thing that I didn't mention in the article is just how affordable berries are when you pick them yourself. I always saw any berry more exotic than a strawberry or a blueberry as a bit of an extravagance...and with a tiny container of fresh raspberries going for $3.99, you can see why. What a fool I was! I ended up buying raspberries, tayberries, and boysenberries galore and the total damage to my wallet? $11. Yup. That's it for a few gallons of what I used to call "luxury" berries. Plus, the tayberries and boysenberries last for ages in the fridge. It's been 2 weeks now and they are still as firm and delicious as the day I picked them, just perfect for a quick afternoon snack.

So find a farm near you and start picking!
